I Have 2 Kids: Is He Ready to Date Me?

I have feelings for this guy. We hang out and do things together. He still lives at home, which I don't care about that. But he doesn't have girls over to his house and he doesn't stay at other girl's houses either. He stays at mine maybe once a week. I believe him when he tells me these things, because that's just what kind of person he is. He is VERY shy, even in private. I want a relationship but he's not sure if he is ready for the responsibility of dating someone that has 2 kids. He says that he cares a great deal for me, in his words more than I could imagine, and that he finds himself thinking of what it would be like to be in a relationship with me but he keeps coming back to he's not sure if he is ready to be with someone with 2 kids this early in life. He likes my kids and my kids adore him. His words: "Life starting out is hard enough and the financial strain is high also, and children make it that much harder. And then there's what happened to my dad in the back of my head that wont go away." Now as far as what happened with his dad.... I dont know all the details, but his dad started dating his mom, she already had 2 kids, and he took her to actually get a divorce (this is what i was told, mind you), and that to this day his half-brothers do not appreciate a single thing that his dad did for them and that they are the ONLY reason his parents argue. Is there any hope for me? We've talked about it and he didn't tell me 'no'. He wants to, I think, but he seems scared and really unsure. Is there anything that I can do? Because I really care about him and we've been friends a long time, I just want more than friendship, and I'm positive that we could be happy. What should I do?
