How did he get over me so quickly?

My ex and I had been together for 2 years when all of the sudden he said he wanted to take a break to figure his life out. He has a daughter and said he needed to make some changes in his life as far as career and school so he can provide for her. He said it was just a break to figure things out. We got back together then broke up for good, all within a week of the initial break. He said he wasn't going to see anyone because he was going to the east coast to start training for a new job in a few months. We had talked about seeing where our relationship was once he got back so we had kept in touch until I found pictures of him and some girl on a social site. Her relationship status was changed the day he and I broke up. He says they are just friends, that he is just filling a void. I know I have to get over him, but I just can't help wonder how he got over me so quickly? How do you just stop loving someone after 2 years, we had even started saving money for a house and talking about how and where we were going to get married. I wish I knew how he did it so I can hurry up and let go.
