What are Parkour Exercises?
Posted by: Julie Bigman on June 21, 2007

A friend recently told me about Parkour exercises, something I had never heard of before. According to Wikipedia, Parkour (sometimes abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (English: the art of displacement) is a physical art of French origin, the aim of which is to move from point A to point B as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. Despite what the name would have you believe, Parkour is not an extreme sport, rather it is a discipline that resembles self-defense in the martial arts. According to the founder David Belle, the spirit of parkour is guided in part by the notions of "escape" and "reach," that is, the idea of using quick thinking with dexterity to get out of difficult situations. In a hostile confrontation, one will be able to speak, fight, or flee. Martial arts would teach you to fight, While parkour would teach you flight. That's the basic idea of it.
