The most notable television drama this week isn’t ER – it’s the feud between Donald Trump and Martha Stewart. The sniping started when Stewart, in an interview with Newsweek, blamed the failure of her show The Apprentice: Martha Stewart on the fact that Trump would not take his competing show off the air (with no mention at all about how her prison stay affected ratings.) According to her, she was supposed to fire Donald on the first episode of her show, thus booting him off the air. Trump lashed back in a letter to Stewart, laying the blame squarely on her shoulders, saying her performance was the cause, and that “I knew it would fail as soon as I first saw it – and your low ratings bore me out.” He is also quoted as having written, “Essentially, you made this firing up just as you made up your sell order of ImClone.” Stewart responded in a typically sugar-coated manner, claiming both innocent incomprehension and injured betrayal by “a longtime friend.” Stewart issued a statement on Tuesday, saying “The letter is so mean-spirited and reckless that I almost can't believe my longtime friend Donald Trump wrote it.” Something tells me she has never watched an episode of the real Apprentice. |
