![]() There is some debate on the issue of other beverages counting toward your daily fluid intake. Some dieticians say it is okay to count sparking water, juices, or weak teas and coffees. But think about the extra calories, sugar, caffeine, and additives that you are consuming. If you don’t like drinking plain water, try a slice of apple, lemon or lime in the glass. Alternatively, try flavored waters. Just be sure to read the nutrition and ingredient labels. Running on Empty If you are not drinking your eight glasses of water on a daily basis, here is how your body is being affected: Your weight loss will slow right down: Approximately two litres of water is naturally lost through daily bodily functions, such as urinating and sweating. If you don’t replenish this water, you will soon become dehydrated and your metabolism will be the first to shut down. Your digestion will suffer: Water is important for digestions and elimination. Poor digestions means you won’t absorb the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients form the foods that you eat. You will feel “fake” hunger: When you are dehydrated, your body sends out the same signals that prompt you to eat and you may end up answering that response with food. Water is a natural appetite suppressant, so it will curb those hunger pangs. A glass of water before a meal will help you feel full and it will prevent overeating. You won’t get the full benefit of exercise: Your metabolism increases with exercise, and as mentioned earlier, water is essential to maximize your metabolism. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout. ________________________________ drink up the benefits Getting your eight glasses of water per day can be easy. Try bringing a water bottle to work and keeping it on your desk to drink throughout the day. There are also big water bottles that hold 64 ounces of water, so you know when you reach your daily intake. Not only will water aid in your weight loss goals, it has many other health and beauty benefits. It lubricates your joints, improves muscle tone, flushes toxins from your body, and hydrates skin cells for a healthy glow. |
