How To Make Your Move On A Date

Control Yourself!

If the two of you are interested in going further than the doorstep kiss, that’s a personal choice between two consenting adults and who am I to interfere?

Okay, I will interfere – but just a bit. If you’re back at your place, don’t act like a horny teenager. Put on some cool music (See A Soundtrack For Making Out), pour some wine, and relax. It’s a delicate line to dance between being confident with your moves and being pushy, so try to have some patience and grace.

While it’s mood killing to stumble awkwardly into a kiss, it’s just as bad to jump on someone like a dog in heat. Ease into it, try to relax, break the tension, joke around. A little playful banter or teasing is always good. It allows for the ice to break and some gentle physical contact like silly pillow fights or nudges.

Once you feel comfortable, go ahead and make your move with confidence. Just remember to be yourself, use the strengths of your own personality and don’t take on the persona of Rico Suave or Jessica Rabbit.

Keep in mind that whoever you are out with agreed to go with you, and while this doesn’t guarantee a connection, everyone deserves respect. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a little fun too.
