From the classic pair of jeans to the perfect pair of Chinos, there are certain pants that are essential in any man's wardrobe. Rakesh Singh writes.  In fact, during my first year in University, one sociology student wrote a manifesto and created a petition to effectively ban pants from our daily lives. Of course, he would also pre-drink before going to gym, but his efforts to destroy the credibility of pants speak volumes about the common man's attitude towards the garment. The simple fact is, as a gender, we are far more obsessed with getting into and out of pants then we are about actually wearing them. Pants get little play in men's fashion. However, in this world of upward mobility and high-paced business, pants simply beat no pants any day of the week. So, in an effort to make sure you are out there closing the deals, this writer combed the streets, bantered with tailors and compiled a list to make sure your closet aids you in your effort to be competitive in both the job market and the social scene.  Flat-Front Black PantsThe first thing to note is that this is not simply a pair of suit pants. You may already own several suits and you may own pants that correspond to these suits. These are outfits, not merely pants. Divided, these outfits fall. What you need is a pair of renegade black pants strong enough to stand on their own. Flat-front black pants are always in style and are always hot. As one tailor expressed, this is the crux of your pant armory. Purchase a black pair of dress pants. If you're feeling adventurous, also go for a navy blue pair. This is one area of your wardrobe where you shouldn't worry about dropping some extra bills to stay competitive. Getting them tailored for that perfect fit is a definite must.  Flat-Front ChinosWhat are Chinos? Chinos are the real name for Khakis. Remember khaki is a colour, not a pant. Aside from semantics, I've often made this very same mistake, but decided to change my ways after being yelled at by a tailor. Colour is an important aspect of a fine pair of chinos because here you have free play to express yourself. Generally, light coloured Chinos are the way to go. Having a few pairs in your closet is always helpful for either a formal or social occasion. Chinos are simple to maintain. Just make sure that the pants are flat-faced and do not have any pleats or tapers. Avoiding tapers and pleats is good rule to follow in general because flat-faced pants are cleaner and neater looking which allows them to be extremely versatile in your collection. |
