Are You Spending Healthy Amounts of Time Online?

How To Draw The Line
Your sleep habits and social life can be affected the most by your excessive online use.  The most important is obviously your sleep.  If you’re tired all the time, you won’t be out making friends.  Cut out all online activity at least one half hour before bed.  Being online is too stimulating for your brain, from the light on your screen to all the processing your brain needs to do while surfing.  Thirty minutes should be enough time to let yourself come down from all the activity and go to bed.

Next, remember what’s more important- your virtual life or the people in your real life.  If you simply can’t log off to spend time with others (which is a problem you should try to work on), involve them in your online time.  Watch videos that make you laugh with your loved ones.  Share favourite songs over instant messaging.  Try to do something interactive that involves, not isolates, the people you care about.

Try To Remember…
At one point, you were able to survive without the Internet.  You can’t pretend things haven’t evolved and eliminate the Internet from your life, but remember that it’s only a part of how you do things.  It isn’t your whole life, and if you can’t go a minute without checking for updates on your phone, you need to reexamine your priorities.

It’s ignorant to think you can stop using the Net, but don’t get so caught up online that you miss out on what’s going on around you.  You might get a little delusional when you’re hooked on a social website or an online game, but nothing on the Internet can replace the fun real life has to offer.
