Back to Basics: How to Find the Perfect Jean

Flattering Your Figure
If a belly is what you’re trying to hide, don’t go browsing in the faded jean pile. Dark is always slimming. You’ll also want jeans that stretch a bit regardless of what you’re trying to hide or accommodate, especially if you want to feel comfortable, too. Wide waistbands are more comfortable and will less likely create muffin tops. It doesn’t hurt to get others’ opinions, either. Bring along a friend to get a second opinion. They’ll be able to assess your situation from different angles. Even if you’re alone, don’t be afraid to ask the salesperson for their opinion. They are usually more than willing to help.

Basic Back Doctrines

Now—there are many issues when it comes to the right fit for our butts. Avoid exposing the bum crack at all costs so even if you have to find a larger waist size—do so! You can always wear a belt to compensate if it’s a tiny bit loose. Don’t wear skin-tight styles. Instead, look for a medium-fitting style without any frills for pockets. Also—avoid washes that are faded in the back or else they’ll exaggerate anything you want to downplay.

If your problem is the opposite, look for jeans that have more elaborate back pocketing, like with designs. Avoid pockets that are low on the pants as they’ll make your bum appear saggy.

Look VS Feel

Remember that the way a pair of jeans looks on you is very much a different concept than how they feel on you. A pair can look amazing and fitted but can chafe in three different directions. Comfort is key so make sure you take a quick stroll in them before you commit to purchasing.
