Carbs and Nuts Carbs have a bad rep when it comes to weight-conscious people. And who can blame them? When we think of carbs we automatically think of pastas, cakes, cookies, pastries. However, carbs are also the life-blood of energy. Choose natural carbs, like whole grains. They are high in fibre content and protein.
Nuts also carry the same bad reputation as carbs do. Peanuts are a prime example. But, there are many different varieties that are beneficial to our health and are high in protein. Almonds are one of them, as well as walnuts. It’s a fine balance with nuts, though. It’s not like fruit where you can’t possibly overeat (or rather, if you do, it’s not awful for your body). With nuts, however, it’s important to exercise a certain amount of self control.
Other Protein Protein is essential to our health. Much of our protein can be found in meats, like chicken and beef. The poultry family contains lots of nutrients while red meat (like beef) is high in iron and vitamins. Just make sure the meat is lean and not fatty. One of the best ways of getting your dose of protein is through fish. One of the healthiest is salmon. Never fry what you’re making no matter what or else it’ll be counterintuitive to your healthy food choices. Instead, try grilling or baking it instead. Don’t load on unhealthy sauces, either! Lemon and salt should do just fine. Soy sauce is also a good option when it comes to flavouring your food. It’s universal and goes great with just about anything.
Taste vs. Health One important thing to remember is that healthy food and eating doesn’t necessarily mean the taste of the food is compromised. These above examples are just a few of the health foods that taste great and are nutritious. Who knows—you may enjoy them so much it’ll feel like you’re indulging where in actual fact you’re actually doing some good for your body.
