5 Tips for Dressing for Fall

Blazer
Next is my personal favourite trend of the past few years: the oversized boyfriend blazer. This is perfect if you’re looking to dress up a simple outfit (for instance, jeans and a t-shirt) or dress down a fancy cocktail dress. Don’t let the shoulder pads throw you off; the boyfriend blazer is the single most versatile and easy-to-wear item of clothing you will ever own. This fall, cover up with one in a neutral colour (black, white, or grey are great options) and let it take your outfits from day to night all season.

Tights
Make black tights your best friend this season. An opaque pair looks effortlessly chic under dresses, skirts and even shorts (yes, denim shorts over black tights is still trendy). However, sheer black tights are even making a comeback, to the surprise of many fashion industry insiders. Celebrities like Kate Moss have been seen sporting the trend and it looks refreshing and new. That’s right, what was once a huge fashion faux pas is in style again. Shopping for hosiery has never been so exciting.

Scarves
Perhaps the easiest way to take your look from summer to fall is to throw on a scarf. This versatile accessory is not only chic but it’s also practical. How often does that happen? Stay warm and cozy this fall by wrapping a scarf around your neck. You can wear this look with a casual outfit or wear a beautiful printed scarf with a little black dress for a night out on the town. Whatever outfit you choose to accessorize with a scarf, it is sure to look chic and put together, and most importantly, effortless.

Metallic Nails
Okay, so maybe this isn’t an article of clothing, but you can certainly update your manicure for fall, too. Put away those coral and pink nail polishes and save them for next summer. The look for fall is short, neatly manicured nails in a metallic colour like gold or bronze. They not only add an edgy feel to your outfits, but metallics also act as neutrals so don’t be afraid to pair these colours with literally anything you are wearing.

There you have it. Five easy ways to keep wearing those summer pieces you just can’t part with and still look chic and ready for fall. Whoever said it isn’t possible to look good and stay warm at the same time clearly never knew how to properly accessorize to take a single wardrobe from season to season.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember for this season is to experiment with layering. Don’t be afraid to throw on a blazer over a cardigan over a t-shirt – you get the point. After all, ‘tis the season to layer.
