Your girlfriend has packed on a few pounds but can you ask her to hit the gym? Logan Rogers has the skinny. ![]() The jury is still out on if “love at first sight” exists, but one thing is for sure, you can definitely love what you see at first sight. Initial physical attraction was probably the reason you started dating your girlfriend. Since then the two of you have formed an emotional bond to compliment the physical attraction. But lately you’ve noticed there is a bit more of your girlfriend to love than there used to be. Can you ask her to get back into shape? I say you can…if you follow certain guidelines. Walk the Walk Alright stud, what type of shape are you in? It’s easy to point fingers, but it’s also selfish and juvenile. A real man leads by example. Do you exercise at least once or twice a week and/or play sports? If you do, then I think it’s more than reasonable to expect that your girlfriend make an effort to stay in shape. But then again, men often chase sports with rounds of beer and chicken wings. To objectively determine what type of shape you’re in, start by looking up your BMI (body mass index) to see if you’re in the healthy range. Have Actual Suggestions It’s not good enough to just ask someone to start exercising because after a day or so the idea will just fade away. Don’t say, “You should check out that gym down the street” or “Maybe you should start playing tennis.” If you want to see actual progress, then be proactive and have detailed suggestions ready to present to her. If you literally go down to the gym or the tennis courts and get a quote on how much it would cost for the two of you to join and what the time commitment would be, she’ll be a lot more likely to say yes.
