![]() I’m no scientist, but from what I can tell, it is a lot easier for a woman to gain weight than a man. I’ve never heard a guy say, “This cake will go straight to my hips.” And that’s probably because it won’t. Men really have to eat badly consistently to gain a lot of weight, but women aren’t so lucky. So be considerate of this! Don’t eat that bag of chips in front of her! The side effect of this is that you’ll establish better eating habits for yourself. Plan Ahead If you really want to be supportive than you need to put more thought into your lifestyle. Next time you go grocery shopping; don’t just grab all the usuals. View each item from her point of view. Which foods would be tough for her to stumble across in your apartment and not eat? If personally you just can’t stand to give up your favourite cookies, then buy the bag, but keep it at work where your girlfriend won’t have to see it. Also, if you know you two are going out to dinner, don’t go to a chain restaurant and expect her to order healthy options and skip dessert. Find a restaurant in advance where there’s nothing on the menu that will cause the button on your fly to go shooting across the restaurant. Cold Turkey = Hot Fudge About the stupidest thing you and your girlfriend can try is to just start eating only healthy foods. You might last a few days or even a week but when the inevitable crash comes, you will both crash hard and be eating worse than ever! As long as you’re generally making healthy choices, then I think it’s a great idea to support those choices with a junk food reward system. If Wednesday night “Ice Cream Night” will motivate you two not to eat the french fries on Tuesday then go for it! That one splurge a week can become one of life’s simple pleasures. Be Realistic Unless you’re an actor with a full time trainer and nutritionist on staff, it’s very rare to see someone change their body dramatically in a short period of time. So if your goal is to get your girlfriend to lose a ton of weight or look like some other woman than you need to drop that ideal right now. Take it easy and take it slow. Go to the gym once a week and have just a single healthy meal. Then you two can work your way up from there. Once she establishes good habits, they will become very difficult to break! |
