Gwen Stefani
Here’s the thing, if you don’t love Gwen Stefani, there is something seriously wrong with you. The No Doubt frontwoman, solo artist, wife, mother of two, style icon and designer (I’m sure I’m missing a few) is the epitome of cool. Stefani debuted her clothing line, L.A.M.B, in 2003 and later released Harajuku Lovers in 2005. Both lines are massively popular among fans and her designs are often seen on other celebrities. Gwen comes from a long line of seamstresses in her family and is one of the few genuinely talented celebrity designers in mainstream media. In 2007, L.A.M.B opened New York’s Spring/Summer 2008 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and received rave reviews. The brand is sold in 275 stores across the world and Gwen’s designs have appeared in magazines like W, InStyle and Elle. Young Hollywood, take note: this is celebrity designing done right.

Victoria Beckham
It only makes sense that the one and only Posh Spice would come out with a clothing line. What started out as a small denim collaboration with Rock & Republic Jeans turned into her very own denim line in 2006 called dvb Denim. Around the same time, Victoria released a his-and-her fragrance with her husband, David Beckham, as well as her own line of sunglasses. In 2007, she won “Entrepreneur of the Year” at the British Glamour Magazine Awards. Victoria Beckham’s clothing line debuted in 2008 during New York Fashion Week to positive reviews. Today, celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Hudson, Drew Barrymore and Heidi Klum are often seen wearing Victoria’s dresses.

Honourable Mentions:
Jessica Simpson:
I must admit, even though most of the things that come out of that girl’s mouth are nonsense, her pieces are great. As a shoe lover in particular, it’s undeniable that her designs are great. Whether or not she has much to do with the designing process is another story.

Sean “P. Diddy” Combs: Sean John Clothing Inc. has been around – and has been hugely popular – for twelve years. Since then, Sean John has become an internationally celebrated brand and in 2004, the label won the CFDA Men’s Designer of the Year Award.

Justin Timberlake: Timberlake co-founded his clothing line, William Rast, with his best friend Trace Alaya in 2006. The name is a combination of Justin’s grandfather’s first name and Trace’s grandfather’s surname. Since then, the line has become a favourite during New York Fashion Week and sells both men’s and women’s wear.

Whether you love them or you hate them, it’s undeniable that celebrities have a huge impact on how we dress, where we shop and what trends we do and do not follow. Clothing lines are their way of expressing their personal style and many celebrities, including the ones mentioned above, do a fantastic job of using their creativity to delve into the world of design. At the end of the day, fashion and fame have always – and will always – go hand-in-hand, so we might as well embrace their efforts because some of them are truly fantastic.
