Why You Should Wear Black And White

If you’re sick of the typical spring fare, try on a black and white ensemble for something completely different.  Lauren Festa tells you how to wear it.
For those who would rather forgo the frou-frou of the usual flowers and pale palette that spring and summer collections offer, a simple monochromatic colour scheme is just what you need.

From Top To Bottom

The freshest way to wear black and white is to pair a black top with a white bottom (skirts, shorts or jeans).  This is a great look if you are top heavy because the black takes attention away from this area, while the white accentuates your best assets.  Keep it feminine with simple accessories that won't detract from the graphic appeal.

And Bottom To Top

Vice versa, white on top and black on the bottom changes your look completely.  The best way to make the white top and black bottom look work is to choose interesting silhouettes.  If your pieces are too basic you may take the whole menswear thing a bit too far and end up looking like a waiter.  Pieces should be form fitting.  This works great for women with a more pear-shaped body type, detracting from the hips and accentuating the upper body.

Black or white on top or bottom is a personal choice, but across the board, this palette is a great one to experiment with.  Try funkier cuts without reservation (i.e. a bubble skirt in black looks fresh; in fuchsia it's scary).
