 Every relationship changes you in one way or another, especially the ones that end badly. It’s important to remember that not all guys are the same, as much as it may seem that way sometimes. Just because the last guy treated you like garbage after a while or fooled around behind your back, doesn’t mean the guy you’re with now is liable to do the same thing. You might even notice that your current boyfriend shares certain mannerisms or attitudes with your ex, but this doesn’t guarantee that things will work out the same way. Keep your past experiences in mind so you avoid making the same mistakes again, but don’t judge the new guy for the sins of the old one and don’t break up with him because other guys have hurt you in the past. You Don’t Have Everything In Common You love tennis and he’s never swung a racket. He thinks doing taxes is exciting, while you and numbers have never gotten along. Your hobbies and interests may not all be the same and this should be expected. Of course, it’s important to have some things in common, but it’s also a benefit that each of you has your own things as well. You might be able to expose him to something you’re interested in and, failing that, you still have the opportunity to indulge in a hobbie or activity without him if he just doesn’t dig it. You won’t like all the same books, movies, television shows, magazines, foods and sports and that’s okay. It’s certainly not a good reason to break up with someone. Constant Happiness Some people have unrealistic expectations of relationships. If you want everything to be perfect all the time, to never fight and always be romantic with your partner, you’re going to be disappointed. The truth is happy couples sometimes fight and they aren’t always expressing their undying love for each other. This is no fairy tale. Relationships come with difficulties, but hopefully they are problems you can face and solve together. |
