![]() Just five years later, commercial space flight appears to be an industry with much potential and it is only a matter of time before many of us could find ourselves orbiting the Earth. Hot off the heels of “SpaceShipOne,” “SpaceShipTwo” was rolled out to the world press in December 2009. This spaceship is the brainchild of the same individuals who created the first one, but this time it is under auspices of Virgin Galactic and Sir Richard Branson. Branson has already sold over 200 tickets at $200,000 (USD) each for future commercial flights. The date of those flights is still in the works, but I am sure that if you are interested in taking a trip to space, you’ll hear more about it. The cost may seem high, but many observers are predicting that prices will fall as more and more individuals sign on for future flights. Besides Virgin Galactic, there are many other companies that are working towards launching their own manned spacecraft into space. As of this writing, there have been over 20 privately funded ventures that involve transporting people into space and some of which are well on their way to commercial development. Just like Virgin Galactic, chances are that tickets for future flights will become much more affordable as time passes. Space Vacation Stay tuned, as some individuals reading this that are celebrating their first wedding anniversary may end up spending their fifteenth or twentieth anniversary in space. Wouldn’t that be quite the gift? |
