The gym can be good for your body and your social life. Jenny Ferguson suggests keeping fit as a single. ![]() One part of the magical recipe for love everlasting is finding your boyfriend, girlfriend, partner or spouse physically attractive. Some would even argue that the physical aspect of love is the first step in the search to find a partner. That initial spark of attraction when you see someone for the first time, the tingling sensation you get when you hold that special someone’s hand and the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you see your date all dressed up for a night on the town. If you’re on the search for your dream man or woman, here’s what you need to know about getting and keeping your body fit to give you that extra advantage. A Membership To Get Fit There’s always the option of the gym in a single man or woman’s quest to tighten the abs, to increase muscle definition or to lose a little extra weight. While gym memberships can be expensive, they allow singles the opportunity to learn how to use all sorts of cardio equipment including the treadmill, the elliptical, the rowing machine, the Stairmaster and weights. If you don’t have a home gym or don’t have the space to invest in home fitness equipment, then a gym membership is probably a good plan for singles looking to invest in their bodies (and their relationships). Look for a gym with free classes included with the membership fees. Take advantage of those classes to get fit and stay in the best shape of your life. A variety of classes will also let you try new things (always important for an exciting life) and will help you keep your body from adjusting to your fitness routine and plateauing. If you have the extra money, it can really help to invest in a few personal training sessions. Personal trainers are fitness experts who can help you reach your goal. Also key to reaching your goal and staying motivated is having someone push you along. Enlist a single friend or two to join you at the gym and you’ll always have someone to work out with. Co-Ed Or Ladies Only? When you decide you need to get a gym membership to get fit, there’s always a question for the ladies: Do you want to sign up for a gym membership where you’ll work out with men and women alike, or do you want to join a ladies only gym? Well, there are a few things to consider. Ask yourself: Where are you in your fitness goal? Do you feel confident enough to strut your stuff (and to sweat) in front of the guys? Will you give it your all if you’re distracted by someone who has caught your fancy? A co-ed gym can be a great opportunity to socialize with members of the opposite sex while you work on your fitness level and the fact that you’re working out with guys and gals can be a motivational factor. You might even meet someone while you’re breaking a sweat. If you’re not confident with the body you have now and you’re working on re-vamping your fitness goals, it might be easier to start off in a ladies only facility until you’re a little more confident and can enjoy a co-ed gym. |
