The Basic Blazer

Basic blazers aren’t so basic anymore.  Designers start out with the basic design, but add folds, ruched detailing and belts in odd places, all to add more depth and complexity to a classic.  The blazer is perfect and versatile as it does not have embellishments so it can match anything and it is not restricted by dress codes.  You can dress it up, dress it down, embellish it if you like and wear it whichever way you want.  It matches anything from jeans to silk skirts and dresses, and is perfect from morning till night.  Burberry has created great designs for this season’s blazers so if you seek inspiration theirs is a collection to ponder.

Oversized And Gender-Bending

It’s not quite the “boyfriend” jacket of last year.  It may be oversized, it may be a little mannish, but it’s so much more than that.  Pair it with a long feminine maxi skirt or a silky print shirt and you’ve got the best of both worlds.  It can add a hint of seriousness and yet be playful at the same time.  They usually come in darker colours.  I recommend dark olive or navy, single breast and a single line of brass buttons.  Add a thin belt to it and wear it over anything—a slim dress, a sheer shirt, a tank top or a long poufy skirt—and you’ll be the envy of street style seekers everywhere.

The Vest
