What activity do successful people make time for? Dan Grant shares some inspirational thoughts. ![]() Lately, I’ve been working on a new project that is going to take Canada by storm and help people not only get the body they want, but also the life they want. As I’ve been organizing and working on material for the project I’ve been doing a lot of thinking on ways to help people become truly successful. So today I want to share with you a few ideas that should at least get your mind thinking a little bit about how they can help you grow personally. What’s Your Personal Philosophy? In my project, one of the very first things you will work on is your personal philosophy. Most people don’t really think too much about why they do what they do, but the reason you are the way you are right now is because of your personal philosophy. If you believe that smoking is bad, but you continue to do it, that says something about your personal philosophy. It says you don’t really care too much about the future because as of right now smoking doesn’t really necessarily seem to be making things instantly worse for you. What if I told you that the old saying, “An apple a day will keep the doctor away” is actually true? Well how hard is it really to eat an apple a day? Not too difficult, but then why don’t we do it? What if your mind is telling you a can of Coke a day is fine and won’t do a thing? Well then I’m telling you right now that in five years you’ll be right on the edge of a train wreck. We have to be smarter about what we do. We have to change our minds. Once we do that, our personal philosophies on how we should live will change and so will our results. I mean really, who sold you on the plan that eating anything you want and not exercising regularly is the way to go? To Affirm Or Not To Affirm I learned a big reason that affirmations might not work for people this week and its already changed the way I do things. Our brains usually work in questions. We are always asking ourselves things like, “Why won’t this work?” or “Why is this person looking at me that way?” So why do we think statements are our answer to getting what we want? Have you ever affirmed to yourself, “I am 120 pounds and sexy” and your brain instantly comes back at you and says, “Yeah right!” Usually we get a negative response when we try to affirm something to ourselves and the way I see it is that those negative responses are actually turning into the affirmations themselves. Enter afformations, a technique Noah St. John came up with where you ask yourself a question and your brain immediately starts searching for the answer. Ask yourself right now a fat loss question like, “Why do I lose fat so easily?” and be aware of what your mind does. It starts searching for the answer. This can be extremely powerful. A good way to realize how this works is to think about when you are at a party and somebody says, “You know that guy in that movie…what was his name?” Automatically you go searching for the answer and even though it’s not coming to you right away and you seem to have forgotten about it after a while, the very next day it all of a sudden pops in your head. Have you ever experienced something like that? That happens because once you ask yourself a question your brain will keep searching to find the answer. If you are interested, I will expand on the idea of afformations in a later article. |
