Style On Sale: A Guide To Discount Shopping

The Object Of Your Affection

As every fashionista knows, often the passion for fashion is far greater than your credit card balance so certain items must remain more fashion fantasy than fact.  Luckily, a sale just may be the chance to make your dreams come true.  Go in search of your favourite items first and see if they have been marked down, but be sure not to get caught up in the frenzy.  Splurging on an overpriced handbag that is ten per cent off can backfire.  Make sure that you really like an item and that it fits in with the rest of your wardrobe.  Half-off designer pumps are not really a deal if you have to buy a whole new outfit to go with them.  A splurge every now and again is fine as long as it isn’t a false economy.

Thinking Ahead

You will still need to put together a hot outfit in the upcoming season, so think ahead when you are digging through the sale racks.  Look for trends from last spring that will carry through to the next, like body conscious detailing, feminine frills and rock star edge.  The sales are there to clear out old stock and make room for the new collections, but there will be inevitable overlap, so take a look through some of the past season's collections and see what will be sticking around.  Just make sure to avoid the items that will look dated in a few months.

Bang For Your Buck

The most important thing to remember when shopping the sales racks is that you are looking for a bargain.  Don’t get too caught up in the size of the discount, really consider the quality of the item as well as where it fits into your wardrobe.  Make sure you don’t sacrifice fit or pick fabrics that will look passé after a couple of months.  Smart sale shopping is great way to create a strong foundation for your wardrobe or pick up that must-have splurge item you have been coveting for months, but always be sure that you really are getting a strong fashion bang for your buck.
