![]() Jealousy is a complicated issue and different couples not only have different ways of handling it, they also have different ideas of what’s too much. The long and short of it is that jealousy is completely normal and natural in a relationship. In fact, having a little bit of jealousy may be a healthy thing for the relationship. With that said, like most things, it’s probably only effective in moderation. Too much jealousy can be unbearable and very damaging to a relationship and too little jealousy can connote a lack of caring or indifference. It’s important to be able to discuss boundaries regarding jealousy with your partner and decide on some guidelines. Silences Another indicator of a strong relationship involves silences. Now, I’m not going to say that a strong relationship can be shown through little or no silences when you’re together. That may be the case, but an even stronger denotation of a healthy relationship is that if there are silences, they’re comfortable ones. If the two of you can eat at a restaurant without having to talk or take a walk in the afternoon and being content with the silence, this is a big indicator that you’re comfortable with each other. Conversation The types of conversation you and your partner have are also important. Great, scintillating conversations are definitely an indicator of chemistry, but sometimes, it can be the little things that matter even more. For example, a strong bond is created when you talk about things that may not be that riveting to others—who needs to take the dog to the vet, your next grocery shopping trip or a topic that only the two of you find interesting. To Each Their Own When it comes down to it, no one can truly judge a relationship as well as the people that are in it. That is, if you can be objective. This is because nobody else will know the way you and your partner are together as well as the two of you. Sometimes, couples work well together and aren’t perfectly in sync. It’s up to you to figure this out. |
