![]() In light of the study results, one has to wonder about the difference between adult and adolescent metabolism and whether or not the two break down sugars and fat at the same pace. As teens are still in their growing phase, their bodies require more fuel to burn, so their break down of sugars, salt and fat are probably more efficient than adult metabolisms. It’s as if adolescents were like those friends you have who eat gobs of food but never gain a pound, while we adults have to watch what we eat because we burn calories slower. So while the teens have it easier with a wider choice of beverages to choose from and enjoy without gaining pounds, we of the older generation ought to be a bit more careful. The best way to avoid all the excess sugar in these drinks is just to drink water, nature’s pure and refreshing thirst quencher, which you can always rely on. Missing The Old Days The teenagers may have it easy now that they can chug their Sunny D without worrying, but it may not necessarily mean the debate over the health of drinking sugary beverages has been decided. Just remember that there are still many more drinks on the market designed to be bad for you than those that are actually good for your health.
