The Positive Side Of A Breakup

Time Gained And Spent

Having full independence also means you gain time.  This naturally means you have more time to spend doing things like pursuing hobbies and interests you have always wanted to do.  At first you may be disheartened by how much more free time you have, but building your time around yourself is an important learning process.  Forcing yourself to discover new hobbies and activities can be daunting at first, but once you do it more often and as time goes by, you will be proud of yourself for being able to do things on your own and for keeping busy without anybody else.

Social Life

Another advantage to being single is rebuilding your social life.  Many couples tend to live inside their own little bubble for the duration of their relationship and that sometimes means losing touch with their friends.  This is your chance to get back in touch with those friends.  Sometimes, it is those people in your life who will actually help you get through the breakup.

It’s Okay To Be Selfish

A relationship takes time and sacrifice.  After one ends, you really are allowed to be selfish, within reason.  You may have given up a lot of yourself when you were with your partner and being single again gives you a chance to redirect your resources and energy on you and only you.

A Fine Balance

Many times, people can end up seeing both the positive and negative aspects of their lives after the end of a serious relationship.  This can be frustrating, because many will want to only see the positive, as if to justify the breakup itself.  This mentality may just mean that you haven’t quite moved on yet and that is perfectly normal.  Eventually, you should be able to accept both the good and bad, and learn from them both.
