![]() Should be done only in emergencies. Your clothes should feel and look well lived-in, some would say worn out. Ideally, they should be kept in a squashed pile to prevent crisp edges or unsightly seams. The trick is that you want them to be fresh and clean, but not look that way. You can wear a shirt three or even four times before it actually needs to be washed. Just give a few days in between so that no one catches on. And you never have to wash pants until they become crusty and stained. Your clothes don't fit you properly or behave the way they should until they've been lived in for a day or so. Cleanliness Despite all of the overtures to the contrary, you do want to be clean, you just don't want to appear as such. You never want to cross the threshold where you actually become a greasy dirtbag; you just want to look like one and that's why it's so tricky. You should still be showering on a regular basis and doing all of those things that they taught you in health class, but only with proper restraint. Don't let your pre-occupation with personal hygiene impair what's really important: your carefully cultivated illusion of disrepair. Indie Bandwagon Indie style may be easy to make fun of and this advice may have sounded ludicrous, but the important thing to remember is that it does actually look good. It's a solid style and it's the way fashion is leaning right now, so you might as well jump on that bandwagon. |
