Can Wii Games Replace Regular Exercise?

Nintendo might understand that their gaming products are designed solely for entertainment, as opposed to a real, beneficial exercise regimen.  By funding this study, Nintendo may have made itself look even better, but the important thing to glean from this study is to realize that Wii sports don’t really offer the ideal calorie burning experience.

If anything, people who aren’t especially sporty can always enjoy the games offered by the Nintendo Wii and by making them realize just how much fun a person can have by playing sports, the game influences players to go outside and truly enjoy what exercising can offer.  Not to mention, the increased endorphin levels gained from continuous exercising is great for improving mood alone.

Put The Controller Down

Going outside to exercise is one of the single best ways to maintain good health in addition to eating a balanced diet.  Burning calories every day feels pretty good and if you’re having fun, it makes the sport you’re playing that much better.  Baseball, bowling, tennis, golf, jogging, sparring, basketball, hockey, football and lacrosse can all be great forms of exercise.

Wii For Hours

This last tidbit of advice isn’t really recommended, but if you’re seriously not a fan of stepping into the outside world and getting dirty in a sport with a bunch of friends, then a set number of moderate intensity exercises on the Wii could be for you.  Just realize that you’ll have to do those exercises for hours on end just to burn the right amount of calories any normal exercise would.

Game Outside

Until technology advances further and video games become even more sophisticated, “exer-gaming” is just going to remain a source of entertainment, not a viable form of exercise.  Although it’s made game developers a huge amount of money and spawned a new video game genre, the best way to exercise effectively is still to go outside.
