What should you look for in an online dating site?  Jenny Ferguson tells you how to use the internet to find a date.
It’s the digital age and even relationships are finding their humble beginnings online.  From connecting with old friends on social networking sites to joining a dating service in search of love, the net is the new place to find love.  But how do you navigate this brave new online world?

Decide What You Want Before You Jump In

It’s super important, especially with online dating, for you to know what you’re looking for before you spend your hard earned money on a month’s membership to the online dating site your friends keep talking about.

Ask yourself these questions:  Are you looking for someone to have a good time with?  Are you looking for love?  Are you looking for your future mate?  Or are you, as most of us are, just not sure what you’re really looking for?

Once you can answer these questions, you’ll know what site is best for you and you can decide how serious you want to be about meeting someone online.

Social Networking Sites

If you’re not too serious about online dating, but you think the internet might help you interact with more singles, then a social networking site might be a good way to start.  There is no financial risk when you open a Facebook or MySpace account, and it’s not something that forces you to say to the world, “I’m looking to meet someone new.”

Start by looking up old friends, people you went to grade school with, people you work with and expand your friend base while increasing your potential dating base as well.  Who knows, your long lost friend Jillian might insist that you are just perfect for her single brother who lives just a few blocks away from you!

Social networking sites aren’t the best option for the people on a quest to find Mr. or Ms. Right, because they’re used for so many other reasons, but they can be great online tools for meeting new people or re-meeting people from your past.
