When you’re in a long-term relationship, it can be a challenge not to take each other for granted. It is an unfortunate truth that we often treat the ones we love the most with the least consideration, believing that they’ll be there for us unconditionally. Most often, your partner will probably forgive your little indiscretions, but every now and again you’ll find yourself in the doghouse. Here’s a little advice for how to get out of the doghouse or, better yet, avoid it all together.

Clean The House

There is a reason they say that a man doing dishes is porn for women. Historically, women have been responsible for taking care of the household and, unfortunately for us, this dynamic is still carried over in many cases to modern times despite advances in feminism and changing gender roles. Even though we are empowered women with our own lives and careers, many of us still end up washing the dishes, doing the laundry and tidying up around the house. For this reason, a man who knows how to clean and does so on a regular basis without being asked is coveted by all women. So if you really want to impress her, get off your butt and do some housework. Very few things will endear you to her faster or more efficiently.

Ask What She Wants

This applies to everything from sex to deciding where to eat dinner. You may feel that it is your duty as the man of the house to be assertive and make decisions for both of you. Assertiveness is great, but be careful that your confidence doesn’t come off as cockiness. Most often, a woman wants to be asked for her opinion. Don’t assume that you know the answer either. No matter how long you’ve been together and how well you think you know her, she can always surprise you. Make a point of asking what she wants and she will feel appreciated and acknowledged.
