The New Hot Look For Summer

What’s the hottest summer trend right now?  Lychee Fan shares the essentials for a relaxed, fun look.
Every summer, a new breed of trends will bloom and this initiates the race to master them before the first yellow leaf falls.  Well, to give you a head start, let’s break down one of the trends that is sure to be hot this season.  Some of you may have already noticed it.  I call it “beach dressy.”  It’s the clothing that one dons on the beach, which is the perfect outfit for a hot day with a great breeze.  The best thing about this look is that it is easily transferable to an everyday scenario.  This laidback look is work, date and play appropriate, making it a great investment not just for the summer, but also for a permanent spot in your wardrobe.

This look is primarily based on comfort.  Think of going to the beach in a breezy outfit that is easy to slip off when running into the water and easy to throw back on when you’re back in the sun.  It seems that this look is usually created by using the following three factors:  material, colour and print.

Material

Opposite of the Fall 2008 trend of tucking and layering, this summer, look for articles of clothing that are free-flowing and preferably single-layered.  The lighter and looser the fabric, the lighter it sits on your body, which is a definite plus for those who don’t want to bare all during the summer, but also want a surefire way to keep cool.  While loose tops and flowing skirts come to mind as great choices, one particular trend to keep an eye out for is the full-length dress.

The floor-length tube top dress is enormously popular right now, not to mention comfortable.  In addition, while these dresses cling to and emphasize your bust, the cling stops just below the chest.  The advantage of this empire waist is that any problem areas in the tummy, hips or legs are cleverly hidden.  Also, your legs will appear very long.

Colour

With this base, we can build a theme of colour.  As tacky as it sounds, to capture the colour of summer, think of a package of Tropical Skittles:  mango, watermelon, kiwi and tropical blue!  These bright fruit colours are the theme of what you are looking for in terms of summer wear, but these colours don’t need to be limiting.  In fact, a contrast of colours would be more eye-catching and lovelier under the sun.  That brings us to our next section.
