4 Simple Pleasures Of Grooming

These little things can help convince you that your grooming routine is worth it.  Sam Stilson appreciates the joys of grooming.
For some men, grooming is an annoying yet necessary task.  They shave every day because their work demands it.  They style their hair not for themselves, but for the opposite sex.  It’s just part of a routine they’ve designed to please others, but take no pleasure in themselves.

While there is truth to the idea that grooming is largely for the benefit of others, one should be able to find something enjoyable about the whole cleaning up process.  There are lots of simple joys to be found in everything from shaving to moisturizing, even brushing your teeth.

The following things aren’t monumental pleasures, but they are moments that will remind you that despite the extra work it takes to be a well-kempt individual, there are little rewards along the way.

A Virgin Razor

The untouched.  Absolute purity.  The first time.  For nearly everything in life virginal moments are the most cherished and the same can be said for that first shave with a brand new razor.  A sharp, fresh-out-of-the-package razor absolutely slices through facial hair and can provide a smooth-as-butter shave in half the time.  In can be easy to get lazy about replacing your razors on a regular basis, and if you use an electric razor, you’re more likely to just buy a whole new product, but you should always make sure to replace your blades on a regular basis if only for the pleasing experience of a lightning-quick close shave.

A Week-Old Haircut

Unless you’ve discovered a truly exceptional barber, getting your hair cut rarely turns out well.  There is something just so awkward about freshly cut hair.  It just feels and looks wrong.  People offer up empty compliments and no matter how you style it, shape it or cover it up, you always look like you’re five years old and your Mom has just removed the bowl from your head.  However, a magical thing tends to happen about a week after you’ve had your locks chopped.  The stars align, fate smiles upon you and all of a sudden your hair looks awesome.  That is truly a special moment; no matter how you style your hair, it all works.  That feeling alone should be enough to keep you heading to the barber every month or so.
