Long Cardio-Free Living

The ‘Right’ Kind Of Cardio

It’s really like anything in life:  the more intensely you do something, the better and faster the results will show.  It’s the same thing with interval training.

When doing the ‘work’ portion of the interval session, you should be at 90 per cent of your maximum effort to get the optimal results from it.  You also want to make sure you get the most out of every work interval, so your ‘rest’ interval should only be at 30 per cent of your maximum effort.

The work part is the most important part.  The harder you can go, the more fat you’re going to lose.  Period.

Try this.  Start on a stationary bike and do as many 30-second work intervals accompanied by 60-second rest intervals as you can.  If you get up to 10, then you probably aren’t working hard enough, or you’re in pretty awesome shape already.  You’ll know the truth either way.

The Cardio Free Lifestyle

My clients love me (I think), but they really start to love me when I tell them that I’m not going to force them to do endless amounts of cardio on their days off or ever for that matter.  It’s like they won the jackpot and can retire from their misconceived notion that exercise is dull and you have to run for miles upon miles to shed the pounds.  Well, if that is your thinking, then consider this your jackpot.
