Keeping Your Skin Healthy In The Winter

Makeup In The Winter

Carry around lip balm, lip gloss or cream lipstick with sunscreen.  The skin on the lips is one of the most delicate skin areas on the entire body and subject to the most damage.  Take care to avoid wearing powder makeup during the winter season.  This is important, because even if you rely on powder foundation to stop shine, those soaked up oils won’t be able to protect your face from dryness.  If you do experience an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), find a cream or mousse foundation with shine control.

Cleanse Your Body

The most important tip of all is perhaps a little obvious:  drink water!  Getting your required eight glasses a day helps to battle winter dryness because water flushes out toxins from your body and promotes the growth of new cells, allowing your skin and entire body to operate more healthily.  If you are like me and rely on caffeine to carry you through a day, bring around a water bottle as well.  For every cup of coffee, juice, pop, etc. that you drink, try to drink an equal amount of water.  Anyway, not drinking water actually makes you thirstier, no matter how many cups of coffee you drink.

The Ultimate Winter Defense System

For severely dry skin during the winter months, moisture-retention is especially important.  If you find that your skin is still dry after following these tips, you may consider wearing gloves where you can to promote sweating and investing in a good humidifier, one that can take gallons of water and fill the room with warm, moist air.  A humidifier not only helps keep your skin moisturized and healthy, but also has the dual effect of being great for easy breathing, helping to prevent and ease sore throats and colds.  You may think having a humidifier is for “old folks,” but I assure you that you’ll think differently when you live through the season without a cold and with beautiful, glowing skin.
