How Attitude Determines Your Fitness Results

What is the key difference between successful training clients and unsuccessful ones?  Dan Grant opens the doors to his observations of his clients. When you train people all day long like I do, you notice certain traits that successful clients have and the common ones among the unsuccessful.  I’m not going to lie to you and say all my clients are successful, but I’m also not going to lie about the fact that I do everything I can to help them reach their goals.

Today, I want to talk a little bit about the traits that make every single one of my successful clients reach their fitness goals and then some.

Attitude to Go Further

I love it when my female clients finally understand that lifting heavier weights is not only okay, but it will bring them amazing results.

I usually play a little game with clients the first week or two to get a feel for what kind of attitude they are bringing into training.

After a set of an exercise that I know they can do with more weight, I always let them make the decision to stay or go heavier.  They know what I want them to say, but are nervous to push themselves further.

Every stupid piece of exercise advice ever written for women has told them to go light and do a lot.  So does that mean if you lift a soup can 100 times, you’ll start dropping pounds of fat and get an amazing looking body?

A funny thing happens with my clients though.  They start to feel stronger and feel results a lot faster than they had with other personal trainers or by themselves.

They get pumped up and they start to love pushing their muscles and working hard and it shows.

You need to have the attitude to challenge yourself.  If you keep doing the same weight or raise the weight only every once in a while, you’re going to have a really tough time getting any sort of worthwhile results.

A Bad Day Doesn’t Stop Them

Everybody has bad days.  Some people let that bad day or rough start to the day interrupt their mission for health.

I had a client recently who called to cancel a 9 a.m. appointment at 9 a.m. because he just woke up and didn’t feel like exercising.  You know what’s not surprising?  That person is a client who gets really slow results because he is afraid to push himself to new levels.

Everybody has days when exercising isn’t exactly a number one priority because they are tired or are having a bad day, but my clients who show up anyway and put a good effort in are the ones who are seeing the fast and lasting results.

Getting great results isn’t rocket science; it’s a determined attitude to achieve worthwhile goals.
