![]() It shouldn't read like a high school history report. All facts and no fun will attract absolutely no one. Make sure that there is something of you in there, between the words and in the soul of the thing. Make it concise, make it conversational; the most important thing is that you be portrayed as the vibrant, exciting person that you are. Information is a necessary part, but a shopping list of likes and dislikes isn't the best plan of attack. That said, we'll move on to the next point. Don't Have Too Much Fun The worst thing you could do is fill your description with ‘lols’ and veiled swear words. The pseudo-word "S@!$" should never be even considered as an addition to the about me section of your profile. Remember, this is a best foot forward type situation. It's like a job interview and you're trying to get people to be interested in you. Inside jokes that you share with your friends, lyrics from old rap songs, obligatory references to mainstream comedies; these things are not you. They have nothing to do with who you are and, as such, they shouldn't enter into the situation. I would be looking for someone with some intelligence, someone with something to say and a social filter. None of these things are accomplished through the use of IM lingo. Maybe this is just me, but I appreciate a person's ability to function outside of the internet. ________________________ the best policy The important part is that you put across the best of yourself, but it also has to be true to life. Be honest in what you're looking for and what you're willing to give, and you may just be successful in the game. Share your thoughts with Matthew at matthew (at) thesoko (dot) com. |
