5 Fitness Excuses That Don't Hold Up

Excuse:  I don’t have time to work out.

Everyone has a hectic schedule these days, so how come some people manage to find time to work out and others just can’t seem to do it?  Because you have to make a commitment to it and you need to schedule it into your day, just like anything else.  Keep in mind the plethora of benefits that come along with being fit and healthy and realize that making yourself and your body a priority each day is going to benefit you and those around you exponentially.  If you’re really crunched for time, split your workout into little chunks:  do a quick 20 minutes of cardio before breakfast, fit in a 20 minute strength training session after work and go for a walk with your mate/dog/kids in the evening.  Getting your loved ones involved in fitness will make it easier for you to fit in to your schedule and it will benefit them at the same time.

Excuse:  It’s the weekend.

Don’t sabotage all the hard work you’ve done all week long.  Eating everything in sight all weekend means that you will break even at best, but likely end up even worse off than you were before.  That’s not to say that you shouldn’t reward yourself, because a treat once in a while is what will help keep you on track in the long run.  Choose something special that you really love, like a gourmet Italian gelato in the summer or a great steak from your favourite restaurant.  Don’t waste fat and calories eating every low-budget thing you can find in your house, like those stale cookies that have been sitting there open for months.

Excuse:  I skipped breakfast, so I can afford to really splurge at lunch.

First rule:  don’t skip breakfast!  It really jump-starts your metabolism for the day and gives you the energy that you need to concentrate and be productive all morning.  Skipping breakfast also sets you up for overeating for the rest of the day.  In the long run, this means that you will likely end up consuming more calories than if you had opted for a nutritious, filling morning meal.  Breakfast is also the best time to fit in your carbs for the day if you’re a fan because you’ll have the next 12 hours or more to ensure that they get burned off.  Learn to look forward to breakfast instead of skipping it.

no more excuses!

What is the main point in all of this?  Stop making excuses and take responsibility for your health and fitness because no one else can do it but you.  Make yourself and your healthy lifestyle a priority and you’ll reap the benefits in more ways than you can imagine.
