Going on vacation shouldn’t mean that you sacrifice your fitness routine. Justine Kim tells you how to stay in shape while on the road. Exercise and fitness has become a way of life for many people in our increasingly health conscious society. However, when it comes to vacation time, even the most dedicated fitness fanatic can find it challenging to exercise while away from home. With some advanced planning and ingenuity, you can stay in shape on vacation either by adjusting your usual workout to your new surroundings or by trying some new exercises offered by your holiday environment.Check Out What You Have to Work With Preparation is key to keeping your workout on track when you travel. Before you depart for your trip, call the hotel you will be staying at to find out what their fitness amenities are like. Today's travel industry has become increasingly fitness-minded, making it easier than ever to exercise while travelling. Some hotels offer a workout room with cardio equipment, strength training machines and free weights. Many hotels also have a swimming pool in their facility. Swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout. If you are travelling to a Caribbean resort, the majority of them will offer recreational activities and equipment (such as water aerobics, dance lessons, bicycles, kayaks, paddle boats, etc.) that can provide a great workout. If your prospective hotel lacks fitness services, it’s time to try Plan B. Ask the hotel representative or do your own internet research about nearby gyms. Members of some national fitness chains (such as GoodLife Fitness in Canada) conveniently enjoy access to any of the chain’s locations throughout the country. Check your gym’s website before you travel to see if there is a site near your booked hotel. If Plan B fails, try inquiring about other nearby gyms that may offer guest access. These guest passes can be pricey, but some hotels have arrangements with local gyms that can lower the cost for hotel guests. Ask about such partnerships. No Facilities Occasionally, you may find that your options for exercise are limited. If you are travelling to a small town or a rural area, gyms and other fitness facilities may be hard to come by. However, it is no excuse for getting lazy! If this is the case, take your fitness routine into your own hands and adapt your workout to the conditions.
