Healthy BeveragesAll of your beverages throughout the day should be zero calorie drinks. A healthy choice would be water or green tea. You need at least eight glasses of water a day. Water will keep you hydrated and keep your neurological system functioning to its full potential. All of your energy should come from food, not liquids. Hit the Weights Weight training helps burn fat. Surprising? Well, the more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn at rest. Lean muscle requires more energy from the body to be maintained, so therefore your metabolism is increased and a greater number of calories are burned. And that doesn’t mean lifting light weights either. Train with intensity and perform one to three sets of six to twelve reps (depending on your exercise experience). Long Cardio vs. Interval Training This tip is a book in itself, so I’ll keep this as brief as possible. Do long cardio sessions at a certain heart rate burn fat? Yes. Is it the best way to lose weight and burn fat on cardio equipment? Maybe not. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) means performing your chosen form of cardio at a high level of intensity with rest intervals. HIIT burns more calories in a shorter amount of time. So what’s the answer? Here’s my suggestion. For beginners to the game of health and weight loss, perform regular cardio sessions (30 to 45 minutes at 65 per cent of your max heart rate), not because it’s better for you, but because it’s safer to begin your journey to a slimmer body. Once you’ve had some great results and are looking to change it up, do HIIT. Nutrition is Key Why are so many people still flooding McDonald's at lunch or on their way home from work? Start improving your nutrition by trying to eat some lean protein and vegetables with every meal. That means your snacks too. Your body needs lean protein to maintain and build muscle. Vegetables contain not only some great antioxidants, but they are also a great source of fibre and have the kind of carbohydrates that you don’t need to run and hide from. Get Proper Rest What does this have to do with weight loss? Rest is when your body recovers. That means your lean muscle is recovering and getting stronger, and we’ve already gone over why lean muscle is important. Try to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Believe I teach a lot about mindset with my fitness clients and athletes. Why? In my opinion, it is the biggest secret of them all. If you don’t truly believe in what you’re doing, then you won’t reach your full potential and achieve your goals. There are a ton of programs and systems out there for weight loss that work and work well, but almost every program hasn’t helped everyone who’s tried it. Probably the biggest reason for that is that those people just didn’t fully believe in it. If you believe a reputable program will get you the results you’re looking for, then it will. _____________________________ take home message Consistency is the most important thing you can do when it comes to body transformation.
