Bringing French Country Style To Your Home

French Country design is re-emerging as the hottest decorating trend. Read on as Laura Hart describes how to achieve it.
I must start out this article by saying that I hate interior decorating more than pretty much anything else. Well, I hate doing it myself. That being said, I have no objections to re-working an interior space and I value beauty in my surroundings.

I suppose what it all boils down to is, I had best be well enough off that I can bring in an expert, or marry someone who enjoys the “thrill” of gutting a house and redecorating. However, I know many women don’t feel the same way, so I share with you an idea that will hopefully inspire you to bring a little of the French countryside to your front door.

French Country

Close your eyes. Picture crystal clear blue water and perfect sandy beaches, luscious green foliage and beautiful gardens, rustic stone steps with iron rails leading up to your home. You may not see these sights when you open your front door, but you can bring a little of the purity and beauty found in the South of France to the interior of your house.

To bring this look to fruition you must be particular with your colour palettes and fabric choices. Attention to detail is a must, but if you start working now, come first thaw, you could have your own little French paradise to call home.

Colour Story

The basic story you are trying to create in a French country style space is a juxtaposition of light-hearted youth and old, rustic charm. To achieve this mix, combine gentle, pleasing shades of red, rust, lavender, pinks, foam greens, vivid yellows, gold, and hints of blue.

Together these colours create a happy atmosphere, which becomes the perfect accent to the natural, neutral tones of the furniture you will be adding. Those fluent in this type of décor will also tell you that mixing patterns - something generally frowned upon - is encouraged here to add to the rural whimsy.
