How To Get Creative With Your Wardrobe

Jeans

It might seem hard to think of creative ways to personalize your jeans, but it can be done.  Take a pair of ratty old jeans that have rips in them.  Instead of wearing them that way, go searching for fabric.  Find any material of any colour and texture and cut out a piece a little bigger than your rip.  Then sew (or get someone who knows how to sew) the patch to the inside of the jeans, leaving the fabric peaking out.  This re-invents the classic idea of the “patch” (traditionally on the outside) and gives it a spin.  Better yet, your choice of fabric will further make it your own.  If you have another pair of old jeans you only wear at home, why not try taking your fabric marker and writing your favourite quote, poem or song lyric on the legs?

Jewellery

Jewellery is one of the staples of making an outfit unique since there are so many different styles and choices.  The whole point is finding something unique and pairing it with something unexpected.  Think of colours that wouldn’t conventionally be put together and go ahead and pair them up!  If you’re really creative, try making your own jewellery.  I’ve made everything from bottle cap earrings to bead necklaces and bracelets to hemp jewellery.  Most things have a how-to book guide and, if not, ask around or surf the internet for ideas.
