You may have heard the benefits of green tea and black tea. Christine Kim fills you in on what’s good about white tea.
For centuries, tea has been used as medicine to treat the ill.  Among the wide variety of teas available, green tea and black tea are extremely healthy. However, white tea is one of the more prominent teas, as it has a great range of effects on the body and a tremendous number of benefits to your health.  The delicate, smooth and sweet flavour of white tea is more potent than any other tea on the market, and has three times the antioxidant properties.

While all teas generally come from the same source, the way the tea is processed determines the final product.  Studies indicate that white tea is better for you because it is the least processed tea.  Leaving the tea leaves as close as possible to their natural state means that white tea contains more polyphenols.  This is known as the powerful antioxidant that fights and kills cancer-causing cells.  White tea can benefit your health by protecting your heart, preventing cancer, boosting your immune system, and keeping your teeth, gums and skin healthy.

Protecting Your Heart

Keeping your heart in good shape is essential to a healthy lifestyle.  Consuming white tea helps to decrease high levels of blood pressure and cholesterol.  Studies have shown, white tea can thin the blood and improve artery function.  This helps us to lower high blood pressure and maintain a healthy one.  By promoting strong and healthy blood vessels, white tea can protect against the chances of experiencing a stroke.

White tea contains a type of antioxidant called catechins which have been found to help reduce high cholesterol levels.  Cholesterol is an essential type of fat that keeps us healthy.  However, there is good and bad cholesterol and white tea increases levels of good cholesterol and lowers the levels of bad cholesterol.  The benefits of white tea are incredible as it protects our heart and our entire circulatory system.

The Power of Antioxidants

White tea is filled with large amounts of antioxidants.  These are substances that may protect the body from damage from free radicals.  Free radicals are responsible for causing damage to DNA and accelerating the aging process.  When antioxidants come into contact with these free radicals, they neutralize them, making them dysfunctional.  With the power of antioxidants contained in white tea, it is able to prevent cancer-causing cells from developing, therefore protecting against many types of cancer, such as colon, prostate and stomach cancers.
