How To Organize Your Room

Hide the Clutter

This also means tucking away your non-essentials! If you have extra bedding, keep it in the closet or in a box under the bed. If you have winter clothes and it’s still hot out, don’t keep them in your closest or drawers. Tuck them away in a suitcase until you need them. This will help eliminate messes and clutter in your room, and it will cause you less anxiety. Also, if you have boxes lying around with things like books in them, either put them on a bookshelf or drape a pretty sheet overtop. Little things always help make a room look tidier!

Tidy Your Desk

This seems like a given, but a desk is usually one of the messiest places in a room. I know mine is—from notes and pens lying around, to CDs out of their cases strewn everywhere. Tidy up! Put CDs into a drawer, put pens into a mug and keep miscellaneous things like thumb tacks and staples in a little box. Your work space will be much less stressful to actually do work at!

Organization Techniques

One of the best ways to have an easy move is to organize. Get a pen holder for your desk or a magazine rack so your Macleans or Cosmo magazines aren’t lying around everywhere. Keep a laundry basket for dirty clothes instead of letting them pile up on your chair. Hang up your shirts and anything you took off a hanger. Use post-it notes to label if you have to, reminding you where everything goes. It seems tedious at first but you’ll get used to it quickly and your personal space will be that much more…well, spacious.

Contain Yourself

I can’t emphasize how useful containers are. They are versatile and can be used for all sorts of organizing needs. Just think about your necklaces. Instead of having them lying everywhere on your dresser, buy a simple and elegant box to keep them in. Same goes for your other jewellery.

For women, makeup always ends up being a problem with lipsticks and glosses laying everywhere and those eyeliners are always so elusive, getting lost all the time. Keep a small makeup bag you can put in your purse or tote for everyday practical use, such as concealer, lipstick, anything you need for touch-ups. Create a separate box and keep it at home for everything else. Use compartments to keep your nail polishes separate from your eye shadows.
