September is here and everyone is heading back to school and back to work. Lisa Xing tells you why the fun doesn't have to be over. ![]() With summer quickly fading, people tend to get depressed. With fall in plain view, everyone's mood gets worse. Most vacations are over and students have to hit the books again. The summer months are usually more relaxed for working individuals, and September usually brings an onslaught of work. Luckily, there are ways to manage your new schedule and to stay on top of the change. Mental Preparation When September nears, people usually start to fret. They hang on to how great their vacation in the Bahamas was, or the days they spent fishing at the cottage. Although these memories and experiences are great, they don’t help at all with getting over summer and starting anew. That’s the key: get over summer, mentally. Tell yourself you had a great time, but start thinking about getting back to work or school, and get back into the groove of things. Try to think of the summer as a break to rejuvenate and recharge yourself for work again. Think Positive Don’t think about how depressed you are about going back to work. Prepare yourself mentally and think positively about work, even if it’s something as petty as enjoying the ego boost your new heels or that outfit you bought in July and waited two months to wear will give you. Little things will help you through and make life easier. Also think about bigger things, like an exciting new project you’ll be working on or finally finishing your last year of university. Instead of missing the summer, enjoy those memories, but tell yourself you’ll have new ones now. If you think about it in these terms, you’ll have a much easier time adapting and enjoying your time more.
