Have you suddenly found a free week in August? Read Jenny Ferguson’s guide to getting away on a whim! ![]() Travel doesn’t always have to be planned and executed months in advance. Some people live their lives week to week! Especially in the summer, holidays are hard to come by at work, since everyone and their dog’s fleas want to get away and enjoy the summer sun. Last minute travel is as easy as picking a destination, packing your bags and taking off for a week of summer fun. Take a look at these tips to maximize your time off and get away this summer. Imagine spending seven days on the beach or investigating ancient ruins, instead of mowing the lawn. I’m sold, and I just got back from my summer escape! The Last Minute Market The last minute market is booming! Online resources are especially important when it comes to last minute travel. A simple search will open up many options for a quick escape. Keep in mind the reputation of the company; there are opportunities for fraud when you buy online. Also, be sure to do your research; look for pictures, customer reviews and guarantees that your travel will be as advertised. The key to getting the trip you’re looking for, at the price you’re willing to pay, is being flexible. For some, beachfront resorts are the only way to go, while others don’t mind a 10-minute walk to access the water. How It Works All flights, travel tours and resorts want to remain at capacity at all times. This means, when the date approaches and the resort isn’t fully booked, they put vacation packages on sale! This means savings for the consumer: you. It’s a win-win situation. One week getaways start at $500, depending on the number of stars the resort is, the location and of course, the duration. Keep in mind, the price advertised is usually before taxes and those can add between 100 to 300 dollars to the purchase price. Still, with last minute travel, you’re getting a great deal. Take into account the season. Sometimes prices drop during hurricane season, but you’re risking getting wet and spending more time huddled up in your room rather than relaxing on the beach. Usually, the longer you wait to book, the lower the price. This can backfire though, so keep an eye out for any price increases or drops. When you’re happy with the bottom line, it’s time to book.
