How To Build Your Home Office

[Getting it Done]
Working from home is becoming more and more popular. Niki Naderi takes a look at what goes into putting together your very own home office.

Whether you’ve decided to part with rush hour traffic, cubicles and water cooler conversations for good, or are just looking for a space to further your workaholic ways, setting up a home office might require more effort than you originally anticipated. The type of work you plan to do and the people you might be sharing the space with will impact everything from gizmos to furniture. Let’s take a look at some of the important elements to take into consideration before taking the plunge into the world of remote workplaces.

Budget

No one likes to start thinking about the restrictions a shortage of funds can create, but undertaking a project like setting up a work place at home can easily turn into an excessively expensive affair. If money is no object, you can jump down to the next point, but let’s be honest, why would you want to work from home if you’re already rolling in dough? I’d be looking up cottages for sale instead.

Alas, I’m sure there are tons of you out there who actually have to work for a living (sigh), so sit down before you get too wrapped up in your plans and get out the calculator. Work out some sort of figure or at least a general understanding of the amount of money you have to put towards this project. This step is incredibly important as you don’t want to find yourself working overtime just to pay for your workspace!

Computer Consideration

I think we can all agree almost every profession these days requires or is made easier by a computer and consistent internet access, especially for those who work from home. Go and talk to people who understand all that computer mumbo-jumbo if you are technologically challenged like myself. Compare prices and features that come with each system. Make sure the one you choose comes with the programs you require and is compatible with the external devices that you happen to use.

Don’t be rushed or intimidated by sales people who are pushing you into packages or offers you aren’t quite comfortable with or sure of. Shop around and weigh your options carefully as the technological equipment you will be purchasing will more than likely play a key role in your operation.
