“Not tonight honey, I have a headache.” Sound familiar? Sarah Stefanson clues you into excuses for avoiding sex that may actually be genuine. ![]() It is a tried and true cliché used by many a primetime sitcom: once a couple has been together for a while, the woman starts making excuses whenever the man wants to get frisky. Yes, it happens in real life too, to women AND men, but occasionally the old I-have-a-headache trick is actually legitimate. “I Have A Headache.” Let’s start with the classic. As a migraine sufferer, I know full well how unsexy one can feel when a headache strikes. When your head is imploding, it’s hard to work up the excitement necessary to enjoy a sexual encounter. I’m sure a lot of people do use this one when it suits them, but when it’s real, a headache can put a serious damper on lovemaking. With that said, studies have shown sexual activity can actually make headaches go away. On the other hand, there are an unfortunate few for whom orgasms trigger migraines. “I’m Too Tired.” Sex does require quite a bit of energy (if you’re doing it right anyway). So being too tired is a valid reason for putting off amorous activity. We are not all engaging in day long Tantric sex sessions, but even a quickie necessitates a building of get-up-and-go. In Tantra, this rising energy is referred to as Kundalini. No matter what you call it, exhaustion can go a long way to preventing the build up needed to have a satisfactory experience. Too avoid the problem of not having the liveliness to get the job done, try initiating lovemaking at a time other than just before bed. Morning sex can be splendidly gratifying and a great way to start your day!
