Capture screen goddess Charlize Theron’s classic, elegant style. Lisa Xing shows you how.

As one of Hollywood's most talented and versatile actresses, Charlize Theron exhibits icon-worthy style and substance on and off the screen. With stellar acting and transformative make-up, this former model can make audiences believe she’s everything from a disturbed murderer to a tough-as-nails mine worker.

It takes time and professional advice to make Theron look bad, but looking great everyday seems almost effortless.

Hair

The key to having hair like South African-born Theron’s coifed tresses is to keep it simple. Rather than following every trend, stick to tried-and-true classics.

To get Theron’s textured, voluminous layers, start with a volume-enhancing shampoo. As you blow-dry, twist small sections of hair around your fingers starting from the top down. To create more volume, use a large-barrelled curling iron.

Stay simple and skip the hair accessories altogether. Or choose a classic piece like a solid-coloured hair band to keep your hair away from your face.

Make-up

Theron stays classic and simple when it comes to make-up, too. Her look is natural and fresh.

To get Theron’s dewy complexion, use a cream blush the same shade or one lighter than your natural blushing colour. Because cream blushes don’t usually have matte finishes, they give you a natural glow and they last all day.

On your lips, go for colours that are natural, not bright. A light coral is very accommodating to most skin tones, as are shades of brown. Apply lipstick using a brush. It will look less harsh. Finish with a dab of gloss in the middle of your bottom lip for added fullness.

Keep your eye make-up simple by using only a few products and colours. Avoid harsh black liner. If you do use black, apply a little to the outer corners of both lids, and then smudge it a bit with your pinkie or a Q-tip. Then, use a medium-brown shadow on your lid and crease. To highlight your brow bone, use a shimmery nude shadow instead of white.

To keep your skin dewy, don’t cake on the powder. Use a little on your T-zone if needed. Oil-blotters remove excess oil and are available at cosmetic retailers. They’ll keep your skin glowing while removing shine.
