From facials to pedicures to waxing, Laila Jacobs dishes the must-have beauty treatments for your big day.

A bride always glows on her wedding day, but whether that's thanks to inward happiness or a recent facial is up for debate.  Best to cover all the bases and hit the spa well in advance so you look your best walking down the aisle.

Concentrate on the essentials:  hair, skin, nails and makeup.  Begin treatments as soon as possible to receive the most benefits.  Procedures like facials, manicures and pedicures have a cumulative effect; several will give you much more dramatic effects than having just one the week before your big day.

If you're changing your hairstyle, you want to be comfortable and settled with it before debuting to friends and family, so have that done in advance, too.  Above all, you want to feel confident with your look and that takes some planning.

Hair

This area is divided into two categories:  hairstyling and hair removal.  As far as your hairstyle is concerned, book your hairstylist as soon as your wedding date is set.  Discuss your expectations with your hairstylist and devise a plan to ensure your hair will be the desired length and colour by the big day.  Look through lots of bridal magazines and bring pictures to your stylist to ensure you both have the same vision for your tresses.

Hair removal should be considered in advance as well.  If you're already waxing, you're on the right track.  Waxing is a great alternative to shaving because it lasts longer and gives the skin a much smoother and cleaner look.  You won't get ingrown hairs or shadow.

Waxed underarms are a must for the bride in a sleeveless dress.  Waxing also has a bonus:  you'll be smooth and hair-free for your honeymoon.

Skin

Sans professional help, glowing skin unfortunately isn't a guarantee for all brides.  Make an appointment to see an esthetician so she can assess your skin and put you on a skin-care routine.

Invest in a few facials to ensure your skin is in top shape for your wedding.  Stay out of the sun and remember to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep your skin supple and hydrated.
